Deputy Executive Secretary - Programme

Mr. Mounir Tabet

The Secretariat of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) presents its compliments to all Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations accredited to the Republic of Lebanon, and has the honor to inform them of the appointment of Mr. Mounir Tabet of Canada as Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme. Mr. Tabet has assumed his functions effective 8 September 2018.
 
Mr. Tabet brings extensive experience in development and political affairs with the UN. He has worked closely on issues of public policy, globalization and international trade, macro-economics, competitiveness, management, leadership and knowledge management.
 
Prior to his appointment at ESCWA, he was Country Director for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq, where he focused primarily on the stablization of recently liberated areas, security sector reform, community reconciliation, anti-corruption and sustainable development inclduing livelihoods, job creation as well as Agenda 2030 the Sustainable Development Goals.  Prior to his assignment in Iraq, Mr. Tabet served as Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System and Resident Representative of UNDP in Tunis, as well as various positions with the UN in Egypt, New York and Saudi Arabia.  Mr. Tabet holds a Masters degree in public administration from Harvard University where he was Edward S Mason fellow at the Kennedy School of Government.
