Within the framework of implementing the project on “Promoting Food and Water Security through Cooperation and Capacity Development in the Arab Region”, ESCWA and partner organizations are aiming to enhance capacity for efficient, safe and quality food production through the adoption and use of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for a responsible, effective and efficient food value chain.

The training workshop builds on the results of previous discussions and capacity building sessions on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). It provides a platform for Jordanian and Lebanese officials to apply these good practices on the ground and to share experiences and key achievements in adopting and implementing national GAP for vegetable and fruit crops and improving food safety in both countries. It will also identify priority institutional actions supporting GAP in Jordan and Lebanon. The training workshop focuses on the following issues:

  • Importance of GAP for producing healthy and safe food;
  • GAP control points; practical tools and means for implementation;
  • Review of the Manual on National GAP and means of implementation;
  • Field visit: inspection and documentation of GAP application at the national level;
  • National experiences, challenges and priorities in GAP;
  • Requirements for developing the institutional framework and implementing agricultural products safety policy
