This second forum's key objective is to emphasize the significance of establishing mechanisms to enable national and international collaboration and coordination of disaster-related statistics work across disciplines and organizations. It also aims to advance a common framework for disaster-related statistics by forming a network of experts to maintain collaboration, coordination and fundraising for improving statistics on hazardous events and disasters.
This forum, hosted by ESCWA, aims to:
- Offer a convening platform for producers and users of data to exchange knowledge and learn lessons from the last two years regarding pandemics, climate change and conflict, considering how statistics and data were used for better informing and managing disasters;
- Inform on the current and future normative work of international expert groups;
- Follow-up on important areas of work identified in the first forum and identify and recommend new areas for the Inter-Agency and Expert Meeting on disaster-related statistics research agenda.
