Egyptian perceptions of social and economic equality: a glimpse of hope

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) conducted a survey on social and economic equality in 2022 of 10,000 respondents in ten Arab countries. Across the Arab region, 52 per cent of those polled felt that they experienced social and economic equality, while 47 per cent of respondents believed that social and economic equality would increase in the next five years.

In Egypt, the majority of respondents (67 per cent) believed that they experienced positive social and economic equality. Regarding the future, 57 per cent of respondents believed that social and economic equality would increase in the next five years. Compared to the Arab region generally, Egyptians had a much more optimistic perception of their current experience of equality and were more optimistic about their future.
