Term:
Millennium declaration
Definition:

In September 2000, the largest ever gathering of Heads of State ushered in the new millennium by adopting the UN Millennium Declaration. By adopting the original declaration in 2000, world leaders affirmed their faith in the Organisation and its Charter “as indispensable foundations of a more peaceful, prosperous and just world”. The Millennium Declaration, endorsed by 189 countries, was then translated into a roadmap setting out eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to be reached by 2015.
