Definition:
The egg-laying apparatus located at the rear of the abdomen of the female. It consists of three pairs of valves, the ventral, dorsal and inner or posterior valves. The two pairs of the dorsal and ventral valves are short, curved, strong and hook-shaped which form the tool with which the female locust digs and widens a hole in the soil in which to lay eggs.
