Definition:

The intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm or maldevelopment or deprivation. The terms “abuse” and “violence” are often used as synonyms, yet it was agreed in discussion sessions to use the word abuse to refer to the broader concept of maltreatment (violence, neglect, exploitation, assault…).
