To support Arab States in preparing their voluntary national reviews (VNRs), ESCWA, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the League of Arab States, have been organizing a series of regional workshops on VNRs since 2019.
As the second workshop to be held in the 2025 VNR cycle, this twelfth workshop gives an opportunity to the Arab countries presenting their VNR at the 2025 HLPF to inform about their preparations to date, the approaches they are adopting to address challenges, and the way forward.
The thematic focus is on youth and future generations as one of the five chapters of the Pact for the Future and the subject of one of its annexes – the Declaration on Future Generations. While the aim to safeguard the needs and interests of future generations is not new, and is in fact at the very core of the concept of sustainable development, specific actions and steps that governments and other stakeholders must take to account for future generations are still elusive. The workshop explores, in particular, approaches and tools that leverage science, data, and strategic foresight to meet the needs of current generations while ensuring the wellbeing of future generations.
