The thirteenth session of the Committee on Women is a platform to discuss progress made on women’s issues by the ESCWA secretariat and member States. Under the theme “Evidence for empowerment: sex-disaggregated statistics as a driver of change”, the Committee discusses the 2026 results of the Gender Justice and the Law initiative, the use and governance of sex-disaggregated statistics for evidence-based policymaking, national observatories on the status of women, and the use of global indicators to advance gender equality policies in the Arab region.
As part of its proceedings, the Committee holds a workshop on institutionalizing sex-disaggregated statistics in national statistical systems in the Arab region, bringing together national women’s machineries and national statistical offices to exchange experiences and develop practical recommendations.
