Launch of the second Voluntary Local Review of Amman

Following the success of the first Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of Amman, the second VLR for the city is being launched to further advance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

The workshop aims to:
•    Discuss the impact of the first VLR and assess outcomes and lessons learned;
•    Map local development priorities to consider in the new edition of the VLR of Amman;
•    Discuss how the VLR can inform the city’s prospects to become smart, sustainable, and resilient;
•    Introduce and explore the concepts of resilience, urban economic resilience, and smart city strategies within the VLR process; 
•    Exchange knowledge on the subject matter and strengthen the capacities of the relevant stakeholders present.
 

Outcome document

The launch of Amman’s Second Voluntary Local Review (VLR) underscores the city’s commitment to resilience, sustainability, and smart urban development. By conducting a second VLR within three years, Amman sets a regional and global precedent for using VLRs as continuous monitoring and policy-enhancing tools. The initiative highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in assessing progress, identifying gaps, and shaping forward-looking urban policies. As part of the annual "Amman City Day" celebrations, this milestone strengthens Amman’s leadership in urban resilience and sustainable development.
