ESCWA is organizing the seventh Arab Competition Forum in collaboration with United Nations Trade and Development, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the Competition and Consumer Commission of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and in partnership with the Competition Department of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism of the United Arab Emirates.
This year’s Forum is held under the theme “Competition Policy in the Digital Age: Maintaining Fairness and Equality in the Market”. It examines how competition frameworks can respond to rapidly evolving digital markets, with discussions focusing on digital platforms, digital mergers, coordination between competition and consumer protection authorities, and regional cooperation to promote fair, transparent and competitive markets across the Arab region.
The Forum also features a special session celebrating Arab youth engagement in competition policy. Student teams from universities in the United Arab Emirates present innovative case studies on competition in the digital economy, followed by an award ceremony recognizing the winning teams.
The Forum brings together Arab competition authorities, policymakers, practitioners and international partners to advance dialogue, share experience and strengthen cooperation on competition policy in the region.
