ESCWA, in partnership with the High Commission for Planning in Morocco and the United Nations Children’s Fund, is organizing a technical inception workshop on the analysis of poverty and vulnerability in the context of climate shocks and other external stressors in Morocco. The workshop brings together policymakers, technical experts, and data analysts from Morocco and partner organizations to develop and operationalize analytical methodologies that link climate and economic shocks to household welfare and poverty dynamics.
During the workshop, participants explore several approaches to measuring the impact of shocks on poverty, including monetary poverty, multidimensional poverty measures, and income and expenditure analysis. They also examine practical applications using the most recent household survey data in Morocco. A key focus is integrating climate data, such as drought and temperature indicators, with household-level information to develop analytical tools that support evidence-based social protection and economic policy. The workshop aims to establish a technical platform for peer exchange on shock-responsive analytical methodologies and to identify practical next steps for institutionalizing these approaches within the country’s ongoing poverty monitoring and policy development efforts.
