AFE english e-invite

What: The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Sawiris Foundation, Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, at New York University, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Middle East Regional Technical Assistance Center (METAC) are holding the third Arab Forum for Equality, under the patronage of the Ministry of Social Solidarity of Egypt.

When: Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 June, at 9:00 a.m. Cairo time.

Where: InterContinental Semiramis hotel, Cairo, and online via Zoom.

Who: The opening session will feature:

  • Ms. Nivine El-Kabbag, Minister of Social Solidarity in Egypt;
  • Ms. Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA;
  • Ms. Noura Selim, Executive Director of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.

Participants will include ministers, representatives of regional organizations, civil society networks, academic institutions, international think tanks, and UN agencies operating in the region, in addition to young people from the region and the world.

Why: The Arab region has suffered from multiple and overlapping crises in recent years. In this context, the Forum will examine “inequality in times of multiple crises”, demonstrating how the compound effects of overlapping crises are having a devastating impact on the most vulnerable and on the ability of Arab Governments to protect their citizens. The Forum will also explore policy solutions to reduce or mitigate inequality in times of crisis.

The event will be an occasion to launch the Josour chapter in Egypt, in the presence of the Famous Egyptian Singer Abu, the public figure advocating this initiative, which aims to create more opportunities for young men and women and increase their employability.
