On 14 July, ESCWA coordinated the delivery of the Arab region’s key messages emanating from the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 2022 (AFSD2022) to the 2022 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). Those were conveyed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Jordan Nasser Shraideh.
ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti underlined that overall, recovery from COVID-19 in the Arab region was slow due to limited fiscal space and high debt levels, which require addressing financial vulnerability, inequality, and climate change.
In addition, ESCWA discussed the approaches and mechanisms needed for coherent and inclusive recovery post COVID-19, in a side event on poverty, inequality and integrated social policies in the region.
