As part of its support to Arab countries in strengthening national capacities in economic modeling, ESCWA organized a training workshop on building a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for Algeria.
Held from 8 to 10 July at the headquarters of the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CNESE), the workshop provided participants with the necessary tools and techniques to construct a SAM as a key step towards developing a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model for Algeria.
Discussions focused on presenting the data required for building the SAM for the country, addressing gaps in microdata and exploring appropriate estimation methods, outlining the step-by-step process, and identifying the policy areas and instruments to be incorporated into the CGE model, in line with the Council’s role as a key advisory body to the Presidency of the Republic.
