Climate adaptation finance for cities in the Arab region

Climate adaptation finance for cities in the Arab region

Arab cities are increasingly facing the impacts of climate change, with many struggling to adapt. To benefit from climate finance at the municipal level, city leaders need clear guidance on developing high-quality, bankable climate adaptation project proposals.

On 11 and 12 November, ESCWA, in partnership with UN-Habitat, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM – Gap Fund Partnership), and in collaboration with the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA), Clima-Med, and the Adaptation Fund, organized a workshop at the UN House in Beirut on “Climate Adaptation Finance for Cities in the Arab Region”.

The workshop aimed to connect city leaders with experts to learn more about applying climate science to project and policy design, guide municipalities in developing climate adaptation concept notes, and enable them to create a roadmap to transform these concepts into full proposals and identify and map potential funding sources for city-level climate adaptation projects.
