Vital statistics are essential to understand population dynamics, inform government planning, and monitor progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. A well-functioning civil registration system, characterized by completeness, accuracy, availability, and timeliness is crucial for generating reliable vital statistics.
ESCWA, in coordination with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Lebanon Country Office, presented in a meeting the findings of their report on the “Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Situational Analysis”. Participants discussed the findings, identified key emerging issues, and agreed on the way forward.
The meeting, held on 25 July, concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably the establishment of a national committee to hold periodic meetings aimed at improving, promoting, and updating the status of civil registration and vital statistics in Lebanon.
