As part of its efforts to support local development and enhance competitiveness at the governorate level in Oman, ESCWA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy organized a workshop on the Governorates Competitiveness Index to advance the second phase of its development and operationalization.
Held from 18 to 21 May, the workshop reviewed progress in system development, strengthened knowledge transfer, and built the capacities of the ministry’s technical team, while also ensuring operational readiness. Discussions covered the policy framework linking development interventions with competitiveness indicators and mechanisms for analyzing results to identify priorities and address disparities among governorates, in line with the Five-Year Development Plan and Oman Vision 2040.
The workshop concluded with a meeting with governorate representatives to discuss the use of the Index at the local level and address related feedback and technical questions.
