Marking commitment to regional cooperation, ESCWA and the Food and Agriculture Organization for Near East and North Africa (FAO-RNE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support the implementation of the Regional Water Scarcity Initiative (WSI).
Under the agreement, ESCWA will lead the implementation of a series of activities focusing on groundwater governance and climate impact assessments on selected water basins.
The WSI initiative aims to enhance the resilience of food systems and water services in response to climate change by promoting climate-smart agriculture, improving water-use efficiency, and integrating adaptation strategies into national planning frameworks.
