During the fourth meeting of the UNCCD Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (CRIC23), held on 3 December in Panama City, ESCWA delivered a unified statement on behalf of all the Coalition members, in its capacity as co-chair with ESCAP.
The Coalition emphasized its mandated role in advancing the United Nations Decade on Combating Sand and Dust Storms (SDS) (2025–2034) and underscored that strengthened coordination across global agendas, from land restoration and climate action to early warning systems and public health, would be essential to reducing SDS risks and protecting vulnerable communities.
The UN Coalition on Combating Sand and Dust Storms is an inter-agency network of 21 organizations promoting cooperation on SDS from a multi-sectoral perspective.
