Both COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine have created new development challenges for the global South, namely at the energy security level. On the sidelines of the Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo 2022 held in Bangkok, ESCWA, UNECE and UNESCAP discussed ways to overcome challenges and explore opportunities for sustainable energy transition through South-South cooperation.
The side event, held on 13 September, provided an opportunity for Governments, international organizations, and academia to review the existing experience of the energy sector in countries in the global South during the post-COVID-19 recovery period, and the role that South-South economic cooperation can play in the transition towards sustainable energy.
In a related context, ESCWA took part in a virtual booth at the GSSD Expo, where it presented successful development solutions and initiatives.
