To discuss pressing social development priorities in the Arab region, ESCWA held in Algeria the 16th session of its Committee on Social Development. This year’s session, convened on 23 June, focused on social protection as a vital tool for promoting equality and reducing vulnerability, especially considering the ongoing socioeconomic challenges facing the region.
The agenda featured a comprehensive review of the work of ESCWA in social development since the Committee’s previous session. Member States also shared national experiences and progress in implementing social protection programmes and reforms.
The session concluded with a set of concrete recommendations aimed at guiding future action to strengthen social protection systems, close coverage gaps, and promote equality and social justice.
