Representatives of national statistical offices, along with regional and international partners, gathered virtually on 24 June for the eighth meeting of the Technical Advisory Group on Demographic and Social Statistics in Arab Countries. Organized by ESCWA, the meeting reviewed progress in strengthening demographic and social statistics, reducing data gaps, and supporting capacity development across the Arab region.
Discussions covered population and housing censuses, civil registration and vital statistics, surveys, administrative records, non-traditional data sources, and the integration of refugee and displacement statistics into national statistical systems.
Participants encouraged countries to continue updating data through the ESCWA online platform for the Arab Society Questionnaire and emphasized the importance of coordination among national, regional, and international data producers to improve the availability, comparability, and quality of data.
