Beirut, 28 November (Communication and Information Unit)-- For the first time, Lebanese musician Marcel Khalife joins ESCWA for the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People tomorrow Wednesday 29 November at the UN House, Riad El-Solh Square, Beirut.
The annual ceremony this year starts at 10:00 am with the statement of Palestine to be delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Riyad Al-Maliki, and the statement of Lebanon to be addressed by the Chairman of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, Mr. Hassan Mneimneh who will be also representing the Lebanese President of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Saad Hariri.
The ceremony will also see the message of the United Nations Secretary-General and the statement of ESCWA, both to be delivered by the UN Under-Secretary-General and the Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Mr. Mohamed Ali Alhakim.
Lebanese writer Elias Khoury and Palestinian filmmaker Mai Masri will give keynote statements.
Participants on this special occasion include a score of diplomatic and official dignitaries as well as a host of delegates from the civil society.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is marked in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolutions 32/40B of 2 December 1977 and 64/17 of 21 January 2010. The Resolutions encouraged Member States to continue to give the widest support and publicity to the observance of the Day of Solidarity.
