As part of its efforts to strengthen cooperation with academic and research institutions in the region and worldwide, ESCWA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
Under the MoU, both parties committed to collaborating in studies and research on topics of mutual interest, as well as in scientific publishing related to governance, public policy, and development in the Arab region. The agreement also includes enriching peer-reviewed journals issued by either party or affiliated scientific bodies, exchanging expertise, consultants, and researchers, sharing resources and reference materials, organizing events and scientific forums, and giving priority when exchanging invitations to participate in activities organized by each party.
The MoU provides a framework for dialogue and cooperation between ESCWA and the Center, including mechanisms to implement its objectives. These include developing cooperation frameworks in research, studies, forums, and events, appointing representatives from both sides to oversee agreed-upon cooperation, handling planning, coordination, and implementation tasks.
Against this backdrop, the two parties held their first meeting on 6 November to discuss the first batch of joint activities. The meeting focused on preparations for a major scientific conference addressing governance and development policies in the Arab region, scheduled for fall 2026.
