On the sidelines of the WSIS+20 High-Level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, ESCWA co-organized two side events on 15 December to mark the twentieth anniversary of the WSIS Tunis Agenda and conclude the two-year WSIS+20 review process.

At the UN Group on the Information Society (UNGIS) side event titled “UN in Action for Digital Cooperation”, ESCWA, on behalf of all UN regional commissions, underscored the decisive role of regional implementation in ensuring that global digital cooperation is effective and impactful. The event marked the renewed mandate for WSIS regional action as a cornerstone for global digital cooperation.

In a second joint side event organized with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), titled “Translating Global Commitments into Regional and National Action:  Towards an Inclusive Digital Society”, ESCWA showcased the Arab Digital Agenda and emphasized the need to translate global digital commitments into inclusive, people-centred national outcomes.
