Progress has been made in gathering data on disability in the Arab region, but improvements are still needed in the collection and analysis of disability statistics to promote evidence-based policymaking and programming decisions, as well as effective monitoring.
From 16 to 18 September, ESCWA and its partners organized a regional workshop to assess such a progress and harmonize and improve analyses produced in future census and household surveys by following regional and international standards. Participants also shared their own experiences in collecting and analyzing data on disability.
The workshop, held in Muscat, Oman, was organized in partnership with the Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), the Statistical Centre of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC-STAT), and the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labour and of Social Affairs of GCC countries (GCCLSA).
