Lebanese President and Speaker Receive Executive-Secretary

Lebanese President Michel Aoun received on Wednesday 21 June 2017 United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim in a courtesy visit shortly after he assumed office on top of the Commission. President Aoun praised the work conducted by ESCWA for the sake of the Member States. For his part, the Executive Secretary voiced his gladness that Lebanon is hosting ESCWA and stressed that it is the only UN regional and international organisation headquartered in Lebanon.

On the same day, Alhakim called on Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, accompanied by his Deputy for Programme Support Khawla Mattar.

The ESCWA Executive Secretary had received on 13 June 2017 the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major-General Michael Beary, at the UN House in Beirut. The two officials discussed mutual cooperation between ESCWA and UNIFIL.
