Sand and dust storms pose a major and widespread challenge to efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development. In this context, ESCWA and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) held the 11th meeting of the UN Coalition on Combating Sand and Dust Storms, co-chaired by them for the 2025-2026 period.
The meeting, held at the UN House in Beirut on 9 October, reviewed and planned the work of the Coalition, including the coordination of joint activities and contributions to global, regional, and country-level processes.
Established in September 2018, the UN Coalition is an inter-agency network promoting cooperation on sand and dust storms. It brings together cross-sectoral expertise to address this phenomenon and provides targeted technical support at the global, regional, and national levels.
