Human rights indicators are becoming an increasingly important tool for tracking progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They help bridge human rights commitments and development priorities by providing a common basis for monitoring progress and identifying gaps.
On 21 September, ESCWA, in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), organized a regional online workshop on “Collecting Data and using Indicators to Measure Progress in Human Rights”, bringing together representatives of governments and national human rights institutions from across the Arab region.
Participants explored how human rights indicators could strengthen monitoring and evidence-based policymaking and discussed relevant international frameworks and methodologies. They also examined the role of national statistical systems in generating data for human rights monitoring, while listening to various national experiences and good practices.
