On 27 and 28 June, ESCWA, the League of Arab States (LAS) and UN Women organized a regional workshop to strengthen the capacity of the Subcommittee on Gender Equality to promote women's economic empowerment and care economies and policies.
Representatives from ministries of labour and social protection institutions drew lessons from the way gender equality was integrated in COVID-19 national response plans in the region, particularly in care-related issues and policies. They were also presented with tools and examples from some Arab States to examine the situation of care at the national level and identify necessary changes.
The meeting included practical sessions to enhance participants' capacities to formulate necessary changes at legal and policy levels, and improve care services.
