National guidelines on the role of agri-e-commerce in reducing food loss in Algeria
February 2026
The present national guidelines provide a practical framework to strengthen the role of agri-e-commerce in modernizing the agricultural sector and reducing food loss in Algeria, by improving supply chain efficiency and expanding market access. This approach responds to challenges associated with agricultural production and consumption in Algeria, including weak logistics infrastructure, limited digital skills, and varying levels of readiness between urban and rural areas. The guidelines aim to support government entities and partners in accelerating the digital transformation of the agricultural sector and in establishing an enabling regulatory, technical and commercial environment for sustainable growth, by identifying challenges and proposing solutions.
The guidelines identify strategic priorities to accelerate the development of agri-e-commerce, including strengthening the regulatory framework, ensuring data protection and cybersecurity, and increasing market access through enhanced digitalization and innovation along the value chain.
The guidelines also emphasize the importance of expanding Internet coverage, improving connectivity services, and developing electronic payment systems and digital platforms. They underscore the need to strengthen the efficiency of logistics and cold chains, support export-oriented e-commerce, and ensure compliance with technical standards, quality requirements and consumer protection. Collectively, these measures enable Algeria to build an effective and sustainable ecosystem for agri-e-commerce that contributes to reducing food loss, strengthening food security and advancing national development objectives.
