The “Review of Information and Communication Technology for Development” (ICT Review) is a collection of short research papers on various topics related to ICT and the needs of the Arab region.
The first issue of the ICT Review assesses the telecommunication profiles of countries in the ESCWA region, and highlights indicators for mobile cellular, personal computers (PCs) and Internet usage. It also reviews relevant economic sectors in the region and analyses specific ICT needs and opportunities with regards to development.
A closer look is also taken at the gap between existing and potential infrastructure in the region and the status of such infrastructure in an ideal state of development. In addition, it reviews the main recommendations related to policies, preliminary plans and initiatives that address key issues and tackle the problems identified regarding building the information society.
