ESCWA and the Doha Institute’s Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies are convening the South-South Public Policy Dialogue Series: The Future of Governance and Development Policymaking in the Global South – Perspectives from the Arab Region”.

The conference provides a regional platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange on how governance and public policy in the Arab region and the wider Global South can respond to geopolitical instability, economic uncertainty, climate change, inequality, technological transformation and institutional fragility. It seeks to build a shared understanding of regional priorities and support progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 on peace, justice and strong institutions.

The programme covers six interconnected themes: Global South perspectives on governance and development; the future of governance and public policy in the Arab region; institution-building and administrative reform; governance in state reconstruction and peacebuilding; international cooperation and emerging trends in global governance; and the technological divide and artificial intelligence. Through these themes, policymakers, researchers, academics and development practitioners exchange evidence and comparative experience to identify practical approaches for stronger institutions, more responsive public administration, inclusive governance and resilient public services, including in conflict-affected and fragile settings.
