A well-functioning Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system is essential for advancing human rights and strengthening state administrative capacity. In this context, the League of Arab States (LAS) organized an expert group meeting in partnership with ESCWA and UNFPA to support the advancement of CRVS systems in the Arab region.
The workshop, held in Cairo from 7 to 9 October, facilitated a strategic and technical dialogue to achieve universal, inclusive, and efficient CRVS systems. Discussions focused on enhancing the registration of all vital events, including births, deaths, marriages, and divorces, and improving the production and use of vital statistics.
The meeting brought together national experts from statistical offices and ministries of justice, interior, health, and civil registration authorities. It concluded with actionable recommendations to guide national implementation and promote regional coordination and alignment.
