High dependency on transboundary water resources in the Arab region is hampering efforts to achieve water security, and is hindering the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The situation is further exacerbated by political and natural factors, highlighting a pressing need for dialogue and cooperation among riparian States.
In this context, ESCWA organized a workshop on "Strengthening Legal and Institutional Arrangements for Transboundary Water Cooperation and Data and Information Exchange", in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The workshop on 30 and 31 May aimed to strengthen legal and institutional arrangements for transboundary water cooperation and data sharing, particularly regarding groundwater resources.
