Ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, ESCWA, in collaboration with the Arab Ministerial Water Council of the League of Arab States, organized in Amman a regional preparatory meeting on 23 and 24 September to assess progress on water-related goals, discuss enablers, and present key regional initiatives that aim to accelerate the achievement of water-related goals and water security.
The meeting brought together representatives of member States, relevant regional and national organizations, institutions, academia, the private sector and civil society organizations engaged in water-related issues affecting Arab States.
Participants discussed regional priorities on water-related issues and opportunities, in addition to enablers (including policies, innovation and technology, financing, partnerships, data generation, knowledge dissemination, networking, capacity development among others) that can support accelerating the implementation of water-related goals and targets in the region. They also delved into the outcomes of national and regional initiatives, innovations and key actions that facilitate the acceleration of achievement of water-related goals and water security in the Arab region.
The outcome document issued by the meeting will be presented at the UN Water Conference to be held in Abu Dhabi in December.
