In recent years, the world has witnessed rapid technological developments in international trade, particularly with the emergence of blockchain technology, which has proven its ability to enhance transparency, facilitate data exchange, and ensure integrity in administrative, commercial, and financial operations.
On 30 October, ESCWA organized a workshop in Beirut to develop a legislative roadmap that enables the adoption of blockchain technology in Lebanon, in line with international experiences and best practices.
The workshop discussed the potential applications of blockchain in the Lebanese context, assessed the current legal framework’s readiness to accommodate it, and identified existing regulatory and legislative gaps, with the participation of policymakers, legislators, representatives from the banking, financial, and technology sectors, and international experts.
