On 16 December, ESCWA and the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) hosted a capacity-building webinar to explore how digital-intelligent solutions can help utilities anticipate system stress, enhance situational awareness, and accelerate restoration, while emphasizing that strong data governance, cybersecurity, and workforce skills are foundational for scaling digital solutions responsibly.
Expert speakers shared insights from China and the United Arab Emirates, introducing the concept of Digital-Intelligent Resilient Power Grids. They presented China’s experience with advanced metering infrastructure and smart-meter data applications, as well as the UAE's digital innovations and strong cybersecurity approach. They also underscored the importance of coordination mechanisms and AI-enabled predictive analytics.
