To empower countries in producing comprehensive, complete, timely and high-quality vital statistics, ESCWA and its regional partners organized a webinar on the digitization of civil registration and legal identity systems in Arab countries as part of its initiative to modernize them in alignment with national priorities.
Participants highlighted the extent of digitization in civil registration systems in Arab countries by discussing the findings of an ESCWA survey on this topic, along with the opportunities and challenges faced by countries in their digitization efforts.
In the same context, ESCWA, the United Nations Population Fund, the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics, GCC-Stat, and the League of Arab States (LAS), organized a regional workshop to review and discuss the experiences of selected Arab countries in conducting the 2020 round of the Population and Housing Census, and to review the work plan for the 2030 census.
