Civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) are essential for understanding population dynamics, guiding government policies, and monitoring progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Yet, many Arab countries, particularly those affected by conflict and crises, continue to face challenges related to data quality, completeness, and institutional coordination.
In this context, and as part of their joint work with Lebanon’s Central Administration of Statistics and relevant ministries to develop and improve the CRVS system, ESCWA and the UNFPA Lebanon Country Office organized a virtual study session for a Lebanese team to learn from Jordan’s experience in developing and strengthening this system.
The session, held on 27 August, provided an opportunity to exchange expertise and lessons learned between Jordan and Lebanon in the field of civil registration and vital statistics. Participants also discussed potential pathways to develop a roadmap for improving Lebanon’s CRVS system.
