To monitor progress in trade policy among member States and to promote economic integration and trade facilitation in the Arab region, ESCWA held the fourth session of its Committee on Trade Policies on 8and 9 July at the UN House in Beirut.
The session discussed regional trade trends and key features in light of current global developments. It also addressed the risks facing Arab countries under the European Union’s new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), presented findings from the latest Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation, and examined the role of competition policies in trade.
Participants also reviewed the progress made by the ESCWA Secretariat and member States on trade-related matters since the third session of the Committee, held in Tunis in March 2023.
