Beirut, 23 July 2026--The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, extended her warmest greetings to the leadership, Government, and people of Egypt on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the July 23 Revolution, wishing the country continued progress and prosperity, and its people lasting security, stability, and success.
Al-Mashat emphasized the role of Egypt as a strategic partner of ESCWA in the Arab region. The two sides share a strong and long-standing partnership built on continuous cooperation in implementing development programmes that foster regional cooperation, strengthen national institutions, build capacities, and advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recent years have witnessed the implementation of a wide range of technical cooperation initiatives between ESCWA and Egyptian government institutions. These initiatives have included the ongoing development of the Social Expenditure Monitor (SEM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance; the preparation of the State of Development in Egypt report; the preparation of development finance tools and simulation models to assess the impact of trade policies; strengthening social protection systems; supporting disability-inclusive policies; enhancing statistical capacities; and cooperation in the fields of climate change, science, technology, and innovation.
The partnership has also included specialized capacity-building programmes, notably providing training opportunities for Egyptian public officials through the Josour initiative, thereby enhancing the UN System’s support for public administration reform and strengthening the skills of government employees.
Building on these achievements, Al-Mashat reaffirmed the commitment of ESCWA to further strengthening its partnership with Egypt in support of the country’s national development priorities, contributing to sustainable development and shared prosperity across the Arab region.
