On 17 and 18 December, the ESCWA Executive Committee held its 10th meeting in Cairo to review progress in implementing the recommendations of its previous session, along with the activities of the Arab Centre for Climate Change Policies and the reports of the Commission’s subsidiary bodies since the ninth meeting. It discussed key regional challenges, such as progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the current macroeconomic outlook, public expenditure, and fiscal efficiency.
The Committee further examined the long-term impacts of the war on Gaza, the challenges of recovery and reconstruction, and the intergenerational impacts of conflicts and how they influence the overall development path of the region.
Also in Cairo, ESCWA held the 13th meeting of the Technical Cooperation Network on 16 December, focusing on recent developments in technical cooperation activities. It reviewed examples of cooperation in selected thematic areas and member States, and discussed technical cooperation effectiveness and prospects for the programme in the context of UN reform initiatives.
