To develop a national version of the Global Economywide Trade Simulator Interface (GETSI) for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Bahrain, ESCWA organized a workshop in Manama from 20 to 22 January, to define the specific features of the national version, including sectoral and geographical coverage, baseline scenario, and data requirements.
Participants reviewed and discussed practical applications using similar simulation platforms developed by ESCWA, including simulations of changes to the common external tariff of GCC countries, trade liberalization scenarios with selected trading partners, and the impact of the current trade war on the Bahraini economy.
Moreover, ESCWA and the ministry discussed the data required for developing the interface and agreed on a cooperation mechanism for collecting, organizing, and processing the necessary data over the coming period.
