Older persons in Lebanon face major challenges due to ongoing political, economic, and social crises. In response to their needs, the Ministry of Social Affairs and ESCWA organized a workshop on “Integrating Older Persons’ Issues into National Policymaking in Lebanon” at the UN House in Beirut on 29 and 30 October.
The event gathered government representatives, members of the National Commission for Older Persons, civil society organizations, experts, and delegates from residential and day-care centres. It aimed to review the National Strategy for Older Persons 2020–2030 and its action plan, strengthen coordination among stakeholders, and discuss ways to enhance the Commission’s role.
The workshop included specialized sessions that addressed topics such as physical and mental health, ensuring economic and social security, enhancing the active participation of older persons in society, supporting families and intergenerational solidarity, creating a safe and supportive physical environment, and preventing violence and supporting older persons in crisis and conflict situations.
