Amman, Jordan

Launch of the second voluntary local review of the city of Amman

As part of Jordan’s leadership in sustainable urban development and the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESCWA, the Greater Amman Municipality, and UN-Habitat launched on 1 July the second voluntary local review (VLR) of the city of Amman.

The launch event showcased the key findings of Amman’s second VLR, developed in alignment with Jordan’s third voluntary national review (VNR), reinforcing the link between local and national action and highlighting the importance of integrated governance. Participants also discussed how the VLR findings could be leveraged to promote investment and advance sustainable urban transformation.

The second VLR assesses progress on eight priority SDGs through the lenses of resilience and smartness, showcasing the efforts of Amman to improve quality of life, advance urban sustainability, and build a more inclusive, future-ready city. It also turns evidence into action by identifying priorities and supporting investment-ready projects.
