The launch of the second Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of Amman marks another milestone in the city’s leadership on sustainable urban development and the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). After becoming the first Arab city to publish a VLR in 2022, Amman now leads again as the first to issue a second VLR, closely aligned with Jordan’s third Voluntary National Review. This achievement strengthens the link between local and national action, highlights the value of integrated governance, and positions Amman as a regional and global model for cities advancing sustainable development with coherence, accountability, and impact.
The second VLR assesses progress on eight priority SDGs through the lenses of resilience and smartness, showcasing the efforts of Amman to improve quality of life, advance urban sustainability, and build a more inclusive, future-ready city. It also turns evidence into action by identifying priority recommendations and supporting investment-ready projects.
The launch event presents key findings, celebrates this achievement, and fosters dialogue on the transformative role of cities in advancing the 2030 Agenda.
