In response to the growing demand for reliable data to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ESCWA, the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) organized a national meeting on “Modernizing statistical legislation: strengthening governance, engaging stakeholders and innovation”.
Held in Tunis from 23 to 25 April, the meeting aimed to advance key legislative updates and ensure that the legal framework aligns with the United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.
The meeting was one of the recommendations of the Arab Thematic Conference on Agile and Resilient National Statistical Systems (held in 2023) and built on Tunisia’s 2018/2019 initiative to update its statistical law.
