As Arab countries advance preparations for the Fifth Regional Review of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), ESCWA and the United Nations Population Fund Arab States Regional Office organized on 20 May the second workshop for national focal points on preparing national review reports.
The workshop reviewed progress in preparing national review reports, discussed challenges and practical solutions, and draws on countries’ experiences. It also examined the proposed indicators for a composite index on older persons in the Arab region.
Participants also discussed responses to older persons affected by war and conflict based on an ESCWA policy brief on the subject, and considered the preparation of a negotiated regional document as an outcome of the 2027 regional conference.
